Gwm P-Series – 2022 Review

Gwm P-Series – 2022 Review

The GWM P-Series 2022 has quickly become one of the best selling bakkies in South Africa. The P-Series is far more affordable than its direct competitors the Hilux 2.4 GD-6 double cab 4×4 Raider and the Ranger 2.2 TDCi double cab 4×4 XLS. But, many South Africans pride themselves on brand loyalty and are incredibly warey of newer car manufacturers. Time will tell if the GWM P-Series 2022 is successful at winning the trust of the sceptical South African new car market.

Features of vehicle

The main feature of the GWM P-Series 2022 is its advanced tech. The P-Series double cab LT 4×4 is kitted out with a cutting each surround-view camera with park distance control, leather seats with the front seats featuring heaters, lane departure warning and assist, climate control, and other cool gadgets.  A downside to this is that this advanced tech may make the full functionality of the car inaccessible to those of us who are less tech savvy. Another concern is the longevity of the tech that the GWN P-Series is equipped with. What kind of glitches could be possible?

Otherwise the GWM P-Series is uber luxurious inside the cabin and over-the-top comfortable and spacious. Another thing that GWM has added to the bakkie, just to show how much thought went into the design, is the retractable rear-step in the tailgate. The luxurious, yet cost effective, interior has artificial leather seats, diamond-patterned stitching and a large, fancy infotainment system.

Where the GWM P-Series is lacking is their engine. It’s a 2.0 Turbodeisel with 400Nm of torque and only 120kW of power. The bakkie makes about 9.4L/100km. If you are wondering whether paying half a million rand for a brand spanking new GWM P-Series is worth is, consider this. All GWM P-Series come standard with a five-year or 100 000km service plan and a five-year warranty.

Who it’s for?

We would recommend the GWM P-Series to people who want the functionality of a bakkie but also need the comforts of a higher-class SUV or sedan.  The best person for the GWM P-Series is someone who is into learning cool new tech systems and arriving comfortably and in luxury – no matter where they choose to go. Moms with kids, older people, and adventurers who live in a town or city.

The GWM P-Series is definitely not a work horse, but it sure can tackle most offroad obstacles and get you and your family safely to your destination without feeling a bump. If you are looking for a bakkie that is sturdy on the road, filled to the brim with bells and whistles, and affordable for its segment, the GWM P-Series 2022 may just be the car for you.
